Why Sri Lanka?

What a developing country like Sri Lanka can offer to you? Nowadays, the cityscape and people’s behaviors in modern metropolitan cities are very similar, thanks to the force of globalization. With the fast pace of development, it is rather difficult to trace in modern countries how we have been evolving to where we are. However, a good understanding of how human being has been emerging and adapting from the past to the present is important. A developing country like Sri Lanka may shed more light into the nature of human being and his relationship with the environment, which may in turn provide clues to the solution of future challenges, such as global warming, sustainable development, and the North-South Divide.

Background of the village where we teach and interact

Village life in the countryside of Sri Lanka can be a truly fascinating experience. The homes in each village tend to be inhabited by entire family generations.
Lankan village folk are generally curious over foreign visitors. Countryside families are usually keen to talk to foreign visitors and even invite guests to their homes for tea. You can have your breakfast, lunch or dinner with any village household.
You will be able to understand how hard they work to earn their livelihood. You would see several works associated with day-to-day works of village life such as fishing, wood carving, farming, etc.
Distance from Colombo – approximately 200 Km

Climate - Dry Zone rain season –October to December

Temperature - Day time: 27 c to 30 c ( Sept to Mar )

Night time: 22 c to 27 c (Sept to Mar )

Humidity in Jan and Feb: 75%

Main income: derived from from cultivation & dairy farming

Harvesting period -December to February

Population – about 40 to 50 families, most are Sinhalese Buddhist
